Soul Forms Partnership With Concussion Center & Youth Football League

Report From Philadelphia Soul

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul and Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center (JCCC)  are partnering with the Bert Bell Youth Football League in an effort to promote safety and concussion awareness while keeping the game of football thriving.

Through their dual partnerships with Rothman Institute, the Soul and JCCC will conduct a sports concussion seminar for all Bert Bell coaches to be held at the Marple Sports Arena in Broomall, PA on Sunday, May 3 at 5pm.  The seminar will cover the following critical sports concussion education elements:  the science of a concussion, concussion reduction (how to reduce number of injuries including a heads up tackling instruction), concussion recognition, concussion management and return to play progression. Coaches can register at www.PhiladelphiaSoul.com/bertbclinic.

Additionally, all Bert Bell youth football players that purchase a ticket to “Bert Bell Night” at the Philadelphia Soul game on Saturday, May 2 will receive a complimentary ImPACT Baseline Test. More information as well as registration is available at www.PhiladelphiaSoul.com/bertbell.

“Our league is serious about doing everything we can to keep our kids safe, said Bert Bell Director Dan Macartney.  “This program gives a much more comprehensive education to the coaches that work with our kids.  We have made it mandatory for all coaches in our league to participate in this seminar.  Further, we believe the baseline tests are a critical tool to manage the concussion process minimizing the effects related and we strongly urge our players and cheerleaders to take advantage of this opportunity provided to our league.”

“I am excited to be forming this incredible partnership with the JCCC, Rothman Institute and the Bert Bell League,” said Soul owner and ESPN Analyst Ron Jaworski.  “We need to educate our coaches and provide tools to our athletes to keep them safe and keep the best sport in the world thriving.  The Soul, my partners including Marques Colston and I will be heavily involved throughout this partnership to provide resources and opportunities to keep kids safe.”

“Education is a key component of what we do,” said Linda Mazzoli, director, JCCC, director sports concussion program, Rothman Institute. “Concussion injuries are very complex, but the things we do know need to be conveyed to parents, coaches and athletes before a season begins.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of injury, the management and treatment, and post-concussion care are critical to returning athletes not only to the field of play, but back to school and normal everyday life.  Partnerships like this are important in getting the word out. We are very excited to be involved and look forward to a successful relationship.”

The seminar and baseline testing opportunities are just the beginning of this partnership.  There will be continual collaboration between all partners to support the effort of keeping kids safe and the game of football thriving.
