Phillies Fail to Support Harang in Loss to Mets

The Phillies inability to put consistent pressure on opposing starting pitchers played a role in another loss Saturday night, a 3-2 defeat yo the visiting New York Mets. Philadelphia sent more than three batters to the plate just two during the first four innings and tallied both runs in a sixth inning that briefly gave the team a 2-1 lead before the Mets got to Aaron Harang in their half of the seventh. Effective through most of the day, Harang allowed a costly single to Mets starter Jon Niese that was followed by a one-out home run by Juan Lagares, his first of the season. The Phillies defense also failed Harang in the fifth when Cesar Hernandez committed committed his second error of the season to lead to the Mets’ first run of the game. Third baseman Andres Blanco was the only Phillie to get more than one hit on the night (two). Carlos Ruiz’ two-out double to score Darin Ruf in the sixth gave the Phils their short-lived lead.
