Phillies Beat Cards With Late Rally, Hamels Gets 1st Win of 2015

It took almost the entire month of April, but Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels earned hist first win of the season in impressive fashion Monday night in St. Louis, lasting long enough for the Phils to rally against Johgn Lackey en route to his first loss of the season – a 4-1 win for Philly. Ben Revere’s two-out ground-rule double in the top of the seventh down the left field line plated the Phillies’ first two runs to take a 2-1 lead, which Odubel Herrera promptly added to with a single that scored Revere. Herrera was out on the throw to second from right fielder Jon Jay, but enough damage had been done. The Phillies added another run in the ninth to support closer Jonathan Papelbon, who earned his fifth save with another tense ninth that included a two-out double surrendered and a hit-batsman. Hamels went seven strong while allowing one earned run on four hits and four walks with nine strikeouts. For more on this game, click here.
