Flyers to Get Lots of National TV Exposure in ’14-15

Report From Philadelphia Flyers

The National Hockey League and NBC today announced the television network’s national broadcast schedule for the 2014-15 NHL season, including telecasts slated for both NBC and the NBC Sports Network.  The Flyers will be featured on national television 16 times, including at least 12 on NBCSN and as many as four appearances on NBC.

The Flyers’ season opener will be part of a national doubleheader on NBCSN when they visit the Boston Bruins on October 8 as the NHL drops the puck on the 2014-15 season.  That broadcast will be followed by San Jose at Los Angeles in the second of the only two US-based games in the league on its opening night.

In addition to opening night, the Flyers will be featured in NBC’s Wednesday Night Rivalry broadcasts six more times over the course of the season, with matchups against Pittsburgh (2x), the NY Rangers, Washington, Buffalo, Chicago and Detroit.  Five additional games over the course of the season will also appear on NBCSN.  One Flyers home game time has officially changed as a result of the schedule – Tuesday, January 20 vs. Pittsburgh, which will now start at 7:30 PM.

The Flyers are currently locked in for three NBC national telecasts.  The first comes on the occasion of the team’s annual Black Friday matinee, which comes this year on Friday, November 28 when the Flyers host the New York Rangers in the NHL Thanksgiving Showdown.  The game is being played outside of Boston for the first time since its inception in 2011.

On Sunday, February 22, the Flyers will take on the Washington Capitals on NBC as part of the network’s coverage of Hockey Day in America, with game time currently scheduled for 3 PM.   The Flyers will host the Rangers again in an NBC telecast on Saturday, February 28 (8:00 PM).  On Sunday, April 5, the Flyers game vs. Pittsburgh, currently scheduled for 7:30 PM, is one of two games that are eligible to be selected by NBC for their Game of the Week that day.  If selected, the game time will move to 12:30 PM.  Selections are typically made about two weeks before the game date.

Below are the 16 games in which the Flyers will appear on a national audience in the United States on either NBC or NBC Sports Network  The complete local television schedule will be announced at a later date.
