Flyers Fall to Penguins, 4-1; Lose Playoff Grip Over Weekend

The Philadelphia Flyers (34-24-12) are once again currently on the outside looking in of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference after being idle on Friday and losing to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins (39-24-8), 4-1, on Saturday afternoon. They now once again trail the Detroit Red Wings for the second wild card by three points. Radko Gudas gave Philly a short-lived 1-0 lead on Saturday by scoring his fourth goal of the season at 1:58 of the second period, but Pittsburgh would counter with an equalizing goal just one minute later and take the lead just more than one minute after that during what would be a three-goal period for the Penguins en route to the 4-1 win. Steve Mason stopped 31 of 34 shots in the losing effort, the last goal coming on an empty-netter. For more on this game, click here.
