Flyers Deal Coburn to Tampa Bay

Report From Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired 6-0, 204-lb D Radko Gudas from the Tampa Bay Lightning, along with Tampa Bay’s 1st and 3rd-round picks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for D Braydon Coburn, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

If Tampa Bay fails to make the playoffs in 2015 and ends up with the first overall selection, Philadelphia will receive the New York Rangers’ 2015 first round pick (previously acquired) in the draft in lieu of Tampa’s own first round selection.

RADKO GUDAS

Gudas, 24 (6/5/1990), has appeared in 31 games for the Lightning this season, recording two goals and three assists for five points while playing an average of 17 minutes per night. He is in his third NHL season, all with Tampa Bay, which selected him in the third round (66th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

In 126 NHL games, the native of Prague, Czech Republic has recorded seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points. He represented the Czech Republic at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi along with Flyers RW Jakub Voracek, and grew up playing with and against Voracek in the Czech Republic’s junior hockey system.

Coburn, who turned 30 on Friday (2/27/85), appeared in 39 games this season with the Flyers, recording a goal and eight assists for nine points. He departs the Flyers after appearing in 576 games for the club over nine seasons, which ranks seventh among defensemen in franchise history, and 21st overall. Coburn was acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Alexi Zhitnik on February 24, 2007.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Coburn was part of two World Junior Championship teams for Team Canada, including the gold-medal-winning squad in 2005. He was a first-round selection (8th overall) of the Thrashers at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
