Bullpen Blowup Hurts Phillies in Loss to Arizona

After two scoreless innings to begin the ballgame, Aaron Harang began to struggle – then things got really messy. The veteran hurler had trouble getting out of the fifth inning, surrendering three runs in the frame after allowing single runs in both the third and fourth, but was given the ball in the sixth inning. Four batters later another run had scored and two Diamondbacks were on base – Harang’s day was done. But Arizona’s offense wasn’t through, and by the time the inning was over the Phillies found themselves eight runs in a game they originally led 1-0. The bullpen let up each of its inherited runs and then some as teh Phillies lost 13-3. Maikel Franco hit his 13th home run in the loss, Harang’s 13th on the season.
