Behind Hamels, Phillies Make it 6 Straight Wins

Cole Hamels once again gave the Phillies offense most of the night to wake up on Monday to open the road trip in Colorado, and the club made good for him in the sixth inning of what was then a 1-1 game. Maikel Franco’s two-out single started a three-run rally that would prove to be just enough as the Phillies claimed a 4-3 win to open the series and push their season-long winning streak to six games. Odubel Herrera’s double scored Franco and Chase Utley (who drew a two-out walk) in the frame and Carlos Ruiz knocked in Herrera to account for the scoring. Hamels meanwhile went 7.1 innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits while striking out seven and walking one. Ryan Howard’s RBI single in the first gave the Phillies a short-lived 1-0 lead they held until the second. Howard had two hits on the day. Ben Revere went 3-for-4. The Rockies chipped away with a run in both the eighth and ninth innings off Luis Garcia and Jonathan Papelbon, respectively, but Papelbon would eventually strike out the side in the bottom of the ninth to notch his 10th save.
