Harang & Howard Lead Phillies Over Pirates, 4-2

The Phillies earned an impressive series split with the Pittsburgh Pirates by winning the finale, 4-2, on a cool Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia. Aaron Harang continued his impressive season by tossing eight scoreless innings while allowing just five hits and one walk and nothing six strikeouts to get his fourth win.

The offense got him two runs in the first and staked him to a 4-0 lead through five. Ryan Howard went 3-for-4 with his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning. Freddy Galvis also collected three hits and is now batting .353. Cameron Rupp went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Ken Giles allowed two earned runs in the ninth and needed a little rescuing from Jonathan Papelbon, who came in with one out and a runner on third. The run would score on a groundout and Papelbon would subsequently hit Jung Ho Kang with a pitch before getting pinch hitter Andrew McCutchen to pop out to Howard to end the ballgame.
