Phillies Sign Utility Guy Brignac to Minor League Deal

By Todd Zolecki, Phillies.com

The Phillies on Tuesday announced they have signed infielder Reid Brignac to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league Spring Training.

Brignac, 27, hit a combined .185 with a .480 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in 98 plate appearances last season with the Rockies and Yankees. He has hit .221 with a .573 OPS in a six-year career with the Rays, Rox and Yanks.

Brignac has played shortstop, second base and third base in his career, as well as the corner outfield positions. He could compete for a utility infield job, although Kevin Frandsen and Freddy Galvis are expected to be the favorites for those two spots.
