Soul Adds Former ‘Nova Wide Receiver to Roster

Report From Philadelphia Soul

PHILADELPHIA – The Arena Football League today announced that WR Poppy Livers (5’7, 170, Villanova) has been assigned to the Philadelphia Soul 2017 roster. This will be Livers’ first season with the Soul and first in the Arena Football League.

“We had over 200 guys at our open tryout and Poppy definitely stood out,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “We are excited to get Poppy into training camp and hopefully have him confirm our thoughts that his skillset can lead to a phenomenal career in the Arena Football League.”

The former Villanova star was named Second-Team All-CAA and team captain for the 2014 season, racking in a personal best 67 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdowns, while also tallying seven rushes for 64 yards and 17 punt returns for 129 yards and a touchdown. He played in all 11 games during the 2013 season for the Wildcats, recording 53 receptions for 580 yards and three touchdowns, five rushes for 19 yards and 16 kick returns for 323 yards. In 2012 he played in all 12 games, catching 20 passes for 215 yards, three rushes for 68 yards and 10 punt returns for 168 yards and one touchdown.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get an opportunity to continue my football career at the next level, all while staying in the Philadelphia area, the city that has been so great to me,” said Livers. “I am looking forward to getting into training camp and proving that my best football days are still ahead of me.”

Livers is one of three players selected from the Soul open tryouts this past January. He will be joining rookie OL John Kling (6’8, 320, Buffalo) and rookie DL John Sheehy (6’5, 265, Western Texas A&M) as they compete for a spot on the final roster at the end of training camp.
