Sixers Get Heat in 13-14 Opener

The Philadelphia 76ers announced their schedule for the 2013-14 regular season tonight which opens at Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m. against the defending NBA Champion Miami Heat.

The home opener against the Heat is on sale now via SIXERS.COM or by calling 215-339-7676 as part of the “PHILA BIG GAME PLAN,” which consists of 10 of the most sought after matchups of the season against the NBA’s elite teams and brightest stars.

With a variety of seating options, which start at $159, the “PHILA BIG GAME PLAN” ensures Sixers fans the chance to lock in their seat for the following 10 nights, eight of which fall on either Fridays or Saturdays:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 30 vs. Miami at 7:00 p.m.: The Sixers face the defending champs on opening night
  • Friday, Nov. 29 vs. New Orleans at 8:00 p.m.: Former Sixer Jrue Holiday returns to town with the new-look Pelicans
  • Monday, Dec. 9 vs. L.A. Clippers at 7:00 p.m.: All-Stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin make their only stop in Philadelphia
  • Friday, Dec. 20 vs. Brooklyn at 7:00 p.m.: The Nets will bring some familiar faces to town in former Celtics Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce
  • Saturday, Jan. 11 vs. New York at 7:30 p.m.: The Sixers and Knicks meet for the first time this season and for the 430th time overall
  • Friday, Jan. 17 vs. Miami at 7:00 p.m.: Reigning MVP LeBron James makes his second and final appearance of the season in Philadelphia
  • Saturday, Jan. 25 vs. Oklahoma City at 7:30 p.m.: All-Stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook make their only visit to The City of Brotherly Love
  • Friday, Feb. 7 vs. L.A. Lakers at 7:00 p.m.: One of the NBA’s classic rivalries continues when the Lakers make their lone trip to Wells Fargo Center
  • Friday, Mar. 21 vs. New York at 7:00 p.m.: League scoring champ Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks close out the season series against the Sixers
  • Saturday, Apr. 5 vs. Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m.: Rookie head coach Jason Kidd and the Nets take on the Sixers for their fourth and final regular season matchup.

ABOUT THE SCHEDULE:

The Sixers will play seven of their first nine games at Wells Fargo Center, including the opener against the Heat.  Following that start, 16 of Philly’s next 24 games are on the road, culminating in a season-high six-game road trip from Dec. 21 through Jan. 4.

Coming out of the All-Star break in mid-February, the Sixers have a season-high five-game homestand from Feb. 18 through Mar. 1.  Philly closes out the season by playing nine of its final 13 games on the road.  The season finale pits the Sixers against the same team they started the season against, the Heat, this time in Miami on Wednesday, Apr. 16.

The Sixers have 20 sets of back-to-backs this season, three of which are home-home falling on Fridays and Saturdays (Jan. 10 vs. DET and Jan. 11 vs. NY; Jan. 24 vs. TOR and Jan. 25 vs. OKC; Mar. 14 vs. IND and Mar. 15 vs. MEM).

Over the course of the schedule, the Sixers will face each NBA team at least once at home and once on the road, including Eastern Conference opponents twice at home and twice on the road except for the following: Atlanta (1 home, 2 road), Indiana (1 home, 2 road), Miami (2 home, 1 road) and Milwaukee (2 home, 1 road).
