Wentz Suffers Hairline Rib Fracture

Report From Philadelphia Eagles

Quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs during last Thursday’s game vs. Tampa Bay.

“Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning’s practice,” head coach Doug Pederson said in a statement on Saturday. “We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”

Pederson said that the injury happened on a short pass to running back Byron Marshall in the fourth quarter of the game. Wentz got rid of the ball quickly, but not before being drilled by linebacker Micah Awe. Wentz was in the game for one more play, a fourth-and-2 incompletion, before coming out. Wentz finished 12-of-24 for 89 yards and an interception. He also rushed for 15 yards.

The Eagles have three other quarterbacks on the roster in Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel andMcLeod Bethel-Thompson. The Eagles’ next game is Thursday in Pittsburgh.

Fran Duffy analyzed Wentz’s performance using the All-22 coaches tape.
