Soul’s Bogle Named Assistant Coach of the Year

Report From Philadelphia Soul

PHILDAELPHIA— The Arena Football League today announced that Soul Assistant Head Coach/General Manager Phil Bogle has been awarded Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2016 season.

“No one deserves this award more than Phil and I have really enjoyed working alongside with him over the past three seasons,” said Soul head coach, Clint Dolezel.  “He has had a great deal of responsibility, both on field and off the field and has handled everything with poise and professionalism.  Big things are coming for Phil and I look forward to seeing what his future holds.”

During his time as a coach, the Soul have made four post-season runs and won two conference championships and has coached a total of twelve All-Arena players.  Bogle was responsible for six All-Arena players this season (Adam Smith, Jake Metz, Wayne Tribue, Neal Tivis, Jeramie Richardson and Teddy Jennings).  DL Jake Metz also led the league in sacks (8.0) and was awarded Defensive Lineman of the Year for 2016.  He coached an offensive line that ranked first in fewest sacks against (5), a recognition that the team has held for the past few seasons.

Bogle played as a lineman for the Soul in 2007-08.  He won All-Rookie team and First-team All-Arena in 2007.  In 2008, he won First-Team All-Arena again and the ArenaBowl XXII Championship.  He was also a finalist for the League’s Lineman of the Year award.  In 2010, Bogle played for the Dallas Vigilantes and recorded four receptions for 19 yards and one touchdown.  He also spent time in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes (2009), in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006, 2008), Cleveland Browns (2005), San Diego Chargers (2003) and in NFL Europe with the Hamburg Sea Devils (2006).

The Soul will travel to Arizona to take on the Rattlers in ArenaBowl XXIX on Friday, August 26 at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ.  The game will be broadcast live on ESPN and 97.5 The Fanatic. Kick-off set for 7 p.m. EST.
