Soul Brings Back WR McDaniel, Signs FB Benson

Report From Philadelphia Soul

PHILADELPHIA – The Arena Football League today announced that WR Ryan McDaniel (6’3, 200, Samford) and FB Mykel Benson (6’0, 275, Florida A&M) have been added to the 2017 roster.  This is McDaniel’s fifth season with the Soul and Benson’s first.

“Ryan has been a constant in our receiving core for four seasons now,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel.  “He has developed into a very skilled athlete who can help lead this team to another winning season.”

In his four seasons with the Soul, McDaniel compiled a total of 345 receptions for 4,159 yards and 88 touchdowns.  As a rookie in 2013, McDaniel earned Playmaker of the Game honors in ArenaBowl XXVI after tying a championship game record with 13 receptions.

“We have a tradition of running the football and bringing in a guy like Mykel Benson keeps that tradition going,” said Dolezel.  “His All-Arena talent will strengthen our offense and help keep our back-to-back ArenaBowl dreams alive.”

The First Team All-Arena fullback was a member of the Arizona Rattlers for the 2015 and 2016 seasons totaling 171 rushes for 507 yards and 37 touchdowns.  Prior to his time with the Rattlers, Benson spent time with the San Antonio Talons, Orlando Predators, Georgia Force and Milwaukee Mustangs, recording 296 rushes for 790 yards and 50 touchdowns.  Benson was also awarded Second Team All-Arena in 2014.
