Howard Ends Hitless Slump, But Phils Drop 2 to Cubs

Ryan Howard avoided tying former Philadelphia Phillie Desi Relaford for the longest modern day hitless slump Friday night when he broke out of an 0-for-33 hole with a one-out double in the seventh inning of what would become a 7-3 loss to the visiting Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of a day/night double header at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies also lost the first game, 5-1. Only three Phillies players (Brian Bogusevic, Cody Asche and Jeff Francoeur) managed more than one hit across the two contests. Francoeur had three hits. Adam Morgan and Alec Asher took the losses, respectively.
