Flyers Fall to Flames in OT, 2-1

The “excitement” of the newly designed three-on-three NHL overtime period was short-lived Thursday night as the host Calgary Flames scored just 35 seconds into the frame to claim a 2-1 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers when a rebound hit off the stick of Mikael Backlund slipped past Flyers goalie Michael Neuvirth (28 saves on 30 shots) and into the net for the game-winning goal. Michael Raffl’s first goal of the season at 19:24 of the second period tied the game at one.
