Flyers Clinch Playoff Spot With 3-1 Win Over Penguins

The Philadelphia Flyers (40-27-14) are headed to the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs thanks to a 3-1 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins (48-26-8) on Saturday afternoon. Wayne Simmonds netted two goals on the afternoon, including scores that tied the game at 1-1 at 18:57 of the first period for Philly after the Penguins scored the games first goal and the go-ahead score at 16:58 of the second period. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare added an empty-netter late in the third. Steve Mason earned the win in net with 19 saves on 20 shots. For more on this game, click here.

With the win, Philadelphia clinches the second wild card spot in the eastern Conference and will meet the No. 1 seed Washington Capitals in the opening round of the postseason.

Philadelphia closes the regular season at the New York Islanders on Sunday night.
